Why A Warranty Repair Waits On A Part
Warranty repairs often stall for weeks with no visible activity, and the delay usually sits in a spare parts supply chain that runs on very different logic from retail stock.

A warranty repair frequently pauses after diagnosis, with an engineer who has seen the fault and a machine that stays broken. The wait is almost always a part, and spare parts move differently from products.
Spares are made in short runs
Finished products are made continuously while a model is current. Spares for that model are made in batches, sized against a forecast of how often each component is expected to fail.
A forecast that underestimates a particular failure empties the bin for that one component while every other part sits in stock. The scarcity is specific rather than general.
Restarting a run is not quick, because the line making that component is usually making something else. The order joins a production queue rather than a picking list.
The engineer cannot order until they have looked
Diagnosis has to precede ordering, because sending the wrong part is expensive and sending several on speculation is worse. The first visit therefore identifies the fault and ends there.
That sequencing builds in at least two appointments for any repair needing a component. The gap between them is the parts lead time plus the next available slot in the engineer's diary.
Where a fault is intermittent, the sequence can repeat. A second diagnosis after a failed fix restarts the same ordering cycle from the beginning.
Older models are worse, not better
Support for a discontinued model runs on whatever spares were made before the line closed. Once a bin empties there may be no straightforward way to refill it.
Sellers and makers often commit to holding parts for a defined period after a model ends. Late in that period, availability thins even though the obligation technically continues.
This is why an old machine can be uneconomic to repair while still being physically repairable. The constraint is the component's availability rather than the engineer's ability.
Substitution has limits
Some components are shared across a range and can be substituted freely. Others are specific to a production revision, so a visually identical part from a later batch will not fit or will not talk to the control board.
Firmware and electronics tighten this further. A replacement board may need pairing or configuration that only the maker's tooling can perform.
Independent repairers face the same constraint from the outside, which is why they sometimes decline work that looks simple.
What the delay does to the remedy
A repair that cannot be completed in a reasonable time stops being a repair in any useful sense. At that point the question turns to whether another remedy is due.
What counts as reasonable varies by jurisdiction and by the value of the goods, so the specifics differ. The general principle is that a remedy has to actually remedy the problem.
Keeping dated records of each visit and each promised part turns a vague sense of waiting too long into something that can be pointed at.
